And She's Buying a Stairway to Heaven...

Ok, maybe not heaven, but I do have a stairway to nowhere. I prefer to call it my tiered storage unit. It sounds like a much better feature in a new house. This is actually my attic access stairway. Due to the way the trusses were designed there isn't really room for storage in the attic, but we still need an access point. Dad figured a stairway would make for easy access, and as an added bonus, some storage space. So we worked on that Saturday as well as a catwalk that spans the entire length of the house to make it easier to move about the attic, should anyone ever need to venture up there. All weekend as Dad was working on it all I could do was sing the awful lyrics in my head, I do my little turn on the catwalk yeah on the catwalk. Yes, that would be Right Said Fred and I'm Too Sexy. No matter what I did, no matter what was on the radio, that song ran through my head ALL DAY Sunday! Scary, I know.

Steve, Nick, and Jr. were out at the house all day on Saturday doing some wiring. The south side of the house through the living room have all the electrical boxes and wires to them. Steve said he'll be out there this evening working on some wiring also.

Dad and I met the heating and cooling guys out at the house this morning before work. They are going to rough in the HVAC this week. Dad is talking to the plumber today and hopefully he'll start working this week also!

I'm getting excited again! Things are moving along and as an added bonus the weather is getting nicer! Well, with the exception of the 19 degrees and snow on the ground this morning...but hopefully those type of days will be fewer and fewer as we move into April. This weekend I worked without my Carhartt's in jeans and a sweatshirt for the most part. I even was down to just a turtleneck at one point Saturday.

Happy Monday!

Happy St. Patty's Day!

Happy St. Patty's Day to everyone! I hope everyone has a little bit of green on today...and that you can partake in a green beer/beverage this evening.

Unfortunately I missed my annual St. Patty's Day party to work on the house this weekend. We did make some fantastic progress to make it worth it though! Check out these windows! It is starting to look more and more like a house everyday!

Saturday morning started like most weekends. Dad was doing paperwork and stuff while I take my time getting going. Mom asked if I wanted to go to the craft show in Saginaw before I went to the house. When I asked Dad when he was planning on heading to the house he said "in a few minutes"...so that pretty much nixed the craft show. So I told Mom I couldn't go. But Dad overheard us and said, "The crap show? Go ahead and go...but I expect both of you to come out to the house to help this afternoon." Isn't he an awesome guy???? So Mom and I ran to the crap show while Dad caulked all the cracks of my house. We didn't find anything spectacular at the craft show though.

When we arrived at the house Dad was finishing the crack caulking and was ready to cut out some window holes. I sent a picture to Jenn who asked if that was an escape hatch for Billy Bob when he comes to visit. I told her that I don't think Billy Bob will be visiting anytime soon...as he has recently moved into a new home also.
We wrapped half of the house and put in four windows on Saturday. Sunday we wrapped the rest of the house and put in the two big windows on either side of my fireplace. The kitchen and laundry room windows still need to be installed. The garage needs to be wrapped and the window installed there also. But overall we're looking pretty good.

It's obviously much brighter inside the house with all my windows in. I love it! It looks like the heating and cooling guys might start roughing in the duct work next week sometime. I have no idea when our plumber is going to start. Once the duct work is in Steve will be able to come back out to pull some wires for the electrical.

The weekend was beautiful with sun and fairly warm temperatures throughout the day. You can see the beautiful blue sky in the picture of the back of the house. Once the sun went down it started to get pretty darn cold though. But I think (hope) spring is just around the corner. Unfortunately with the warmer weather comes the ground thaw...and my back yard is a muddy, slippery mess. I almost lost my boot a couple times! With the weather is warming up everything is getting moving again. Let's hope it stays that way!

Get Well Wishes: Part II

This weekend was my turn to be sick on the couch. While I knew Dad was feeling pretty bad last week, I now understand HOW bad he was actually feeling. I am back to work today and feeling much better though.

Dad picked up my housewrap and windows on Saturday. He also worked on the ceiling in the stairway yesterday afternoon and evening.

The weather is supposed to be warming up this week. It's actually supposed to be upper 30s and 40s this week! With the added bonus of daylight savings time starting this weekend we will have daylight until 8:00 or so. Dad and I are hoping to head out to the house Wednesday and/or Thursday night to start wrapping the house and putting some windows in.

Get Well Wishes

I don't really have much to tell you about this weekend. And I don't have any pictures to show. Steve came out for the day on Sunday to start installing the electrical boxes. So our electrical work has commenced.

However, the invincible man has fallen ill with a killer cold and he and I were not able to work this weekend. He has been down and out for four straight days! That does not happen very often. I think between his real job and this house we have worn him down and made him vulnerable to the viruses seeking new victims. Dad, who doesn't get cold, has been under a blanket on the couch, and sleeping with extra blankets for four days. So please send some get well wishes his way. It's no fun seeing him so miserable.
